Born in Singapore, 1934
Creative paintings and other art works are my daily routine and they are part of my life. I have been thinking, pondering and reflecting constantly. And I hope I could create a new masterpiece that transcends and surpass my current works that would be my greatest aim in life.
Shuey Fook graduated from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in 1953. He received his first major award (1970) when his metal relief sculpture, entitled “Water House” won him the First Prize in Instant Asia Art Competition.
Subsequently his work, entitled “Demon Fish” also won him two Citation Awards in New York, USA. Furthermore the “Demon Fish” was selected by ITT Corporation for their worldwide advertising campaigns. He received the First Prize in the Abstract Painting Category, NAFA Alumni Association (2009) and Singapore Art Society (2013).
Some of his major art commission works included his metal relief murals for a fleet of 20 Singapore Airlines Boeing 747s; copper enamel mural at NOL (1983); copper enamel frieze at Orchard MRT Station (1987); and 20 metal relief works for APEC Summit (2009).
He was commissioned by Singapore Community Chest to create a Coin Global Sculpture (1989) and Singapore Auto Engineering to design a multi coloured design on a car for its charity drive (1990). He held numerous solo exhibitions and participated in many group exhibitions (1965 – present) both locally and overseas in Germany, Australia, France, Japan, Indonesia, Macau, Malaysia and Taiwan.
He was the President of Modern Art Society (1975, 1981 – 1983) and has been instrumental in the setup of Black Earth Art Museum (2008) where he served as the Chairman (2008 – 2011).
