Born in Singapore, 1936
Yat Chuan obtained his art education in Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, Singapore (1953-1956) and studied at L’Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts, Paris, under Professor Chapelain – Midy; studied lithography under Professor Clairin and Universite Paris (Sorbonne), France (1957-1962).He was one of the founding members of Modern Art Society Singapore (1963) and the first President after the society was registered.
He has held some solo-exhibition, such as Galerie Davrinville, Paris, France (1960); Internationales Haus, Harz, Germany (1960); Galerie Junge Kunst, Fulda, Germany (1960); and National Library, Singapore (1966) and finally “Right at Home: Drawings and Prints by Ng Yat-Chuan, by The Art Gallery, Nanyang Institute of Education, NTU, Singapore (2009).
He also participated in many group exhibitions, such as D’Automne, Paris, France (1957 and 1960); Salon Societe des Artistes Francais (1958, 1959 and 1962); Salon Nationale des Arts, Paris(1959 1nd 1960); Salon Societe des Artistes Francais, Paris, France (1962); the First Modern Art Exhibition, Singapore (1963); Modern Art Exhibition, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (1965); “Pont des Arts, Nanyang Artists in Paris”, Singapore (1994) and Drawing: “Propositions and Possibilities”, Sydney, Australia (1994).
He received an Honour prize in Salon Artistes Francais, Paris, France (1960).
