Born in Malaysia 1941
Chee Toh obtained his art education in Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, Singapore. He was one of the founding members of Modern Arts Society Singapore (1963) and received various awards such as, 1st Prize Painting, Innovation Art Exhibition (1981); 2nd Prize winner, Australian Art Award (1984); 2nd prize winner of UOB Competition (1982) and 1st prize winner of UOB Competition (1985).
He has held numerous solo exhibitions locally and overseas, such as in Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Sarawak, Malaysia (1966); British Council (1967); Mekpayab Art Centre, Bangkok, Thailand (1974); Taiwan Art Exhibition, Taiwan (1981); “Tay Chee Toh’s 1st Sculpture Exhibition” (1987); “Bodylines, Sculpture & Paintings” Show (2001); “Art in Motion: Hanging Mobile” (2011) and lastly, “Dayak: Woodblock Prints by Tay Chee Toh” (2012).
He participated in numerous collaboration and group exhibitions locally and internationally, such as in China, Malaysia, Indonesia, Taiwan, Japan, London, Poland, Italy, and Moscow.
He was credited with a Cultural Medallion Award conferred by the Government of Singapore (1985).
His artworks are widely collected locally and internationally by various corporations and private collectors.
