BOO Sze Yang

Born in Singapore, 1965

The challenge is to make difficult paintings effortlessly.

Sze Yang graduated from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, Singapore in 1991; completed his Postgraduate Diploma in Fine Art at the University of Reading, UK in 1995 and received his MA from Chelsea College of Art & Design, the University of the Arts, London in 2004.

He held 14 solo exhibitions, such as “The Father” (2014); “AIR Taipei”, Taiwan (2012); “Sanctuary”, Australia (2012); “The New Cathedral” (2012); “Sanctuary”, USA (2011); “Boom” (2009); “House of God” (2007) and “In-between”, Korea (2005) and participated in many international group exhibitions, such as “The Realm in the Mirror, the Vision Out of Image”, Suzhou, China (2013); “The 2012-13 Sovereign Asian Art Prize”, Hong Kong (2013); “Exchange China-Singapore Art Showcase”, Yingu Art Mansion, Beijing, China (2010); “Stretch Your Imagination”, Malaysia (2009); “From Left to Right and Right to East”, UK (2009); Asian International Art Exhibition (1999, 2001, 2006 and 2011).

He received the Asian Artist Fellowship Award, USA (2010 – 2011); Juror’s Choice for the Philip Morris Singapore-ASEAN Art Award (2003) and the Platinum Award, UOB Competition (2009).

His artworks are collected by Singapore Art Museum, the Singapore Istana Art Collection, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Singapore, United Overseas Bank, Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, Simmons & Simmons Contemporary Art Collection, Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) Singapore and Yingu Art Mansion in Beijing and private collectors.
