Born in Singapore, 1963

One thing that matters to me both as a person and as an artist is the promulgation of art to others, especially traditional Chinese brush painting. It is at times painful to see the blatant disregard that the common man harbours towards something that was once considered intrinsic to their culture. The state of disrepair that is the apathy towards culture in the face of humanism is a situation I seek to overcome with my words and works.

Yang Chang studied Chinese painting since young, grounded in traditional Chinese painting, and his love for art eventually brought him to begin delving in western painting. He received MA in Economics, James Cook University and BA in Chinese Studies, National University of Singapore.

He follows the origin of the school of thought traced back to ancient Chinese philosophers, the unbounded pursuit of one’s objectives while retaining one’s individuality is one that is inspired by the aged yet immutable pillar of Chinese culture that is Zen.

He has been actively teaching art, and participated in more than 40 exhibitions from across the world, started from Singapore, and from Australia to China, Hong Kong to Korea with traditional Chinese painting, seal engraving, oil-based mediums and abstract art.

He received numerous awards, such as the Philippe Charriol Foundation, Singapore Art Society, UOB Competition.

His artworks are collected by corporations and private collectors.
